About this event
Let’s talk about societal misconceptions, microaggressions, and attitudinal
barriers....but, In a fun way! A bold comedy that blends humour, music, and vulnerability to challenge ableism, explore self-acceptance, and celebrate inclusivity.

Let’s talk about systemic ableism, societal misconceptions, microaggressions, and attitudinal barriers....but, like.... In a fun way!!!!!

Disability is inevitable. It’s like Death and taxes. It comes for everyone. Much like hunger, love, and existential dread, disability is something we all experience in some way. So why not talk about it? Laugh about it? Sing silly little songs about it?

Dean Don't Dance explores the ever ongoing battle with internalised ableism using his relationship with musical theatre as the vessel for this discussion that is part silly little songs, part perspectival theatre, & part ted talk. "

A bold, hilarious, and thought-provoking show. With sharp wit, catchy songs, and moments of real vulnerability, Dean invites you into his world—a world where societal expectations clash with his authentic self.

The show is not just a performance—it’s an experience. "Dean, Don’t Dance!" creatively integrates accessibility into the very fabric of the show. With audio description and Auslan interpretation embedded into the narrative, accessibility isn’t an add-on; it’s part of the story. This means everyone, regardless of acess barriers, can engage fully with the performance. , ensuring the show is as inclusive as it is entertaining.

The narrative takes you on a journey through Dean’s experiences in both the intimate space of his own thoughts and the cold, clinical world of the audition room. The tension between these worlds—his true self and the person he’s expected to be—builds as he faces rejection after rejection. But through it all, Dean’s resilience shines. This isn’t just a show about disability; it’s a celebration of embracing who you truly are.

Get your tickets now for a performance that redefines inclusivity and pushes the boundaries of what theatre can be.
